Infrastructure forms the backbone of global economic development and, encompassing transportation networks, energy grids, and utility systems. These projects are inherently complex, capital-intensive, and politically sensitive, requiring meticulous planning and execution. Today, infrastructure projects have become complex pieces of engineering because it involves a series of challenges determined by large-scale complexity and activity scheduling of the projects. They require new technologies and tools to achieve maximum performance. One of such new technologies is building information modeling (BIM), which is becoming widely adopted in the civil engineering and infrastructure sector. BIM for infrastructure is an intelligent approach to infrastructure design projects that is driving compelling results in the construction industry. It is now recognized as an indispensable tool to undertake complex projects. This paper demonstrates how BIM is reshaping the lifecycle management of complex infrastructure projects.
