In order to meet his basic needs, man has always had a close relationship with traditional herbs. Traditional medicine is recognized and promoted by the World Health Organization as an important healthcare resource. Traditional medicine has long been popular in Mexico. With the increase of healthcare costs in the US, many people are seeking alternative means to treat themselves. With traditional medicine, there is no need for an appointment and no need to travel great distances from rural to urban centers. For these reasons, there is a rising movement to restore ancient herbal healing practices. This paper provides a primer on Mexican traditional medicine.
