This paper explains different methods used for three phase inverters for losses calculation and reductions. It also compares two widely used modulationtechniques Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) andSpace Vector Modulation (SVM) with reference to the losses of athree phase two level inverter. The losses are evaluated byanalytical, simulation and by loss simulator (MATLAB) by thedevice manufacturer. The analytical loss calculation has beencarried out using datasheet parameters. Simulation has beendone for R-L load. The modulation techniques are alsocompared in terms ofharmonic spectrum, DC bus utilizationand Common Mode Voltage (CMV).
